Delaware Restaurant Association members were successful in defeating HB212–an increase in alcohol taxes during a marathon session that lasted into the early morning Wednesday, July 1st.  As part of a strong coalition of hospitality and alcohol industry groups, DRA members fought hard through 2 votes in the House to defeat the legislation.  Menu labeling and an increase in health department fees were also defeated for the year.  The bill to raise liquor license fees passed amidst arguments that it hasn’t been raised since the 1950’s.  “The restaurant industry has a very powerful voice when it pulls together to fight any issue,” said Carrie Leishman, DRA President/CEO. A full recap will be sent out later in the week.
