Delaware Restaurant Association members were successful in defeating HB212–an increase in alcohol taxes during a marathon session that lasted into the early morning Wednesday, July 1st. Â As part of a strong coalition of hospitality and alcohol industry groups, DRA members fought hard through 2 votes in the House to defeat the legislation.   Menu labeling and an increase in health department fees were also defeated for the year. Â The bill to raise liquor license fees passed amidst arguments that it hasn’t been raised since the 1950’s.   “The restaurant industry has a very powerful voice when it pulls together to fight any issue,” said Carrie Leishman, DRA President/CEO.  A full recap will be sent out later in the week.
